Digital SMR Services Launch

Two digital SMR networks in California and one system in Chicago recently launched service. TeamTalk Networks, powered by Fisher Wireless Services, plans to eventually provide up to 50 connected digital high sites, encompassing a single footprint covering the majority of California and Arizona. TeamTalk Connect uses Motorola’s MOTOTRBO Connect Plus based on the Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) standard. Fisher Wireless was one of four operators to join the DMR Association last year.

Icom America announced the commercial availability of an IDAS multitrunk 6.25-kilohertz digital voice and data network in the San Francisco Bay Area. Launched in partnership with SMR operator SMR operator Signature Wireless, the network provides 30 connected digital sites across Northern California for seamless roaming. The network also offers advanced data features including text messaging and remote PC dispatch.

“Multitrunk multisite trunking allows a large number of users to operate on  the system to make the most efficient use of radio channels,” said Mark Behrends, Icom land mobile national sales manager.
“Spectrum is becoming increasingly crowded in urban areas like San Francisco, and FCC licenses are more difficult to procure. With 6.25-kilohertz channel spacing, it is much easier to find small slices of available spectrum.”
ESP Wireless is launching a new commercial digital voice and data network. ESP serves the Chicago area market using MOTOTRBO Connect Plus.

Customers of the ESP network can use text messaging, GPS-based location tracking, dispatch consoles, network monitoring, email gateways and unlimited talk time to enhance business productivity, safety and accountability. (Technology provided by SafeMobile’s SafeNet™)
